Being Cognizant!! (my first interview experience)

Studying BE in computer science, it was certainly a dream to work for a big IT firm and finally Cognizant gave me that chance.
Its 10th August 2011, 10 days before the actual campus drive, when we got informed that Cognizant is going to visit our college on 20th(The very first campus of m y life). I started off my preparations with mixed feelings (as i really wanted to get into it).

On the D-day, we had a written test which comprised of -aptitude,verbal,reasoning questions(the difficulty level was easy to moderate),a 1hr test, the results of which were declared on the same day at night(I got thru!! :))

Next day we had interviews scheduled in different time slots, I was in the noon batch and finally i was called by the hr at around 2.30pm. We had just one interviewer

GOOGLE : Boon or Bane

Those were the days when we used to understand and mug up anything and everything, tried to search for the best, utilizing available resources;quizzing our elders till we got satisfied with their answers......

In Schools we were made aware of the fact that a human brain can store contents of a full library ......and the we just use 5% of our brain on average which indeed is very less in number. This piece of information ,though cannot make one to utilize 100% of his brain unless he/she is at the echelon of  "Stephen Hawking"(a great cosmologist).

Technology has always been a savoir for the people coming from different walks of life. With the intervention of GOOGLE in 1996 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin life has become much more easier. It has revolutionized our searching experience to a great extent. Now every sort of information is available at a click of a button, no matter where you are, whatever you do.

Though Google is working persistently in improvising our searching experience, Google is being accused of causing memory loss to its regular users.
According to a research conducted by Columbia University it was revealed that individuals have made it their habit to rely on the internet for any piece of information rather than using their minds for it. No matter what ever the question is, we humans get the information by making just a few clicks.

Dr Sparrow, who was conducting the research, made a cluster of students and asked them to read and write a series of written statements. The purpose of the experiment was to test the reliance of students on the internet.
The students were told that some of the information they write will be erased while some of it will be stored on the computer.
Sparrow said that the people who thought that the information would be erased and they wouldn’t have access to it later stored it in their minds and were even able to recall it afterwards when asked.
Consequently, in another research Dr Sparrow instructed students that they could find the information they wrote. As a result of this, students remember the stored folder on the computer whereas forgot the actual piece of information stored in it.
Dr Sparrow concluded that when people constantly rely on the internet for information, they forget the main details of the item and only know where to find it on the internet.
Hence to conclude with this article I wud say that it totally depends on us how well we can utilize resources. SHARING one's knowledge with others could be solution for the people who completely rely on search engines.

Mission "SIFE"........mixed experiences

SIFE - "A head for business and a heart for the world"
sife is student in free enterprise, provides platform to students to showcase their entrepreneurial approach and the line mentioned above is its tag line and a jist of what sife is all about.

Well, it all started from the day ,when me and my friend sagar decided to be a part of SIFE OIST team. The whole team was working under the guidance of prof. Pankaj sir(faculty adviser).
Unenlightened about what actually SIFE is?  and the kind of platform we are about to get, we started working over it, to get complete insight of our project CETS(centre for educational and technology services) on which our seniors were already working.

Initially we were full of zeal so did a lot of meetings, delivered presentation in front of our management (to get support :p), brought up a domain etc.

As days went off we started heading towards our so called "high time" when feelings pop out that now is the time to study otherwise.........

So decided to just keep aside our project and start concentrating on the unprecedented and incessant syllabus...:-x......we had a showdown on 29th of june in Mumbai ,where the project was to be presented in th form of a competition with  some of the top B-schools(welingker, nitie, iit-D etc....for instance).

Knowing the fact that we are just left with just one month in hand to prepare for for both our end sem and for the project......at some point of time we decided to leave the project and concentrate on studies. But we(5 member-ed team ) still managed somehow to get over this difficult situation.

Finally we were all set to rock and roll at the D-day.......we were aware of the fact that the rest of the competitors must be having an experience of atleast 1yr......our project ws just 3-4 months old ,but then we thought no matter what the result would be, we just have to give our best.

Finally on 29th of june after a 4hr. delay(oh shit!!!!) we reached mumbai @10am.........feeling drowsy, tired we somehow managed to get a taxi and reached the venue( intercontinental hotel )......@3pm we gave a shot, and were appreciated by the judges for our enthu. to present and compete with B-schools while being a UG.

And we managed to secure a position of 13 out of 20 teams......though we couldn't make it to the semis but still we earned a lot of experience.... which was worth sharing with the people.

So this was all about my experience ,hope u enjoyed!!!!!...........:)

Agonizing Mumbai!!!!

On July 13, terrorist attacks once again brought up the loopholes of Indian government, in the form of blasts at three locations in Mumbai. Mumbaikers are now accustomed to the vague condolements of ministers, with one still blaming the north Indians. Its high time now that Government really need to roll out and incorporate some perennial solutions to balk these kind of execrable acts of terrorism.
